WEST VIRGINIA was ahead of the curve on sports betting, with the state one of the first to offer an online service following the launch of land-based sports betting in August 2018.

The online journey, however, was far from smooth, with the initial sportsbook effectively ceasing operations in March 2019, leaving the state without mobile betting services for around five months.

Today, however, there are around half a dozen apps available in the state, including Caesars and FanDuel, with the restrictions only that you must use them within West Virginia’s borders. Along with its online options, there is also in-person sports betting available at several of its casinos, including two sportsbooks located at the state’s race tracks.

West Virginia’s online journey has also seen the legalization of online casinos and poker, one of only around half a dozen to offer both in conjunction with sports betting. The state’s sports betting industry is regulated by the West Virginia Lottery Commission.
