Louisiana sports betting sites: stadium lights over the stands at night, framed by an outline map of Louisiana

Compare every legal Louisiana sportsbook: the licensed sports betting sites and apps, how the parish-by-parish model works, and the rules on betting LSU. This page covers the full licensed field, with editorial notes on each book.

Louisiana switched on mobile betting in January 2022, but with a twist: it’s legal parish by parish, live in the 55 parishes that voted yes. The Louisiana Gaming Control Board oversees it, the online tax is 21.5% after a 2025 increase, and you must be 21 and inside a participating parish. The Saints and the LSU Tigers are the heartbeat of the market, with the Pelicans close behind.

None of Louisiana’s sportsbooks is a commercial partner of American.Bet, so there are no sportsbook offers or Promo Codes on this page. What follows is an independent guide to the eight licensed apps.

Yes, in most of the state. Louisiana voters approved sports betting parish by parish in November 2020, the legislature set the rules in 2021, and online sportsbooks went live in late January 2022. DraftKings has operated since January 28, 2022. The Louisiana Gaming Control Board maintains regulatory control over every legal sportsbook and handles complaints about funds or account security.

The nine parishes without sports betting

Betting is legal in the 55 parishes that voted yes. The nine that voted no are Caldwell, Catahoula, Franklin, Jackson, La Salle, Sabine, Union, West Carroll and Winn. Residents there can still bet, but they have to travel into a participating parish; if your geolocation places you inside one of the nine, the apps won’t take your bet. HB 72, introduced in February 2026, proposed letting those parishes vote again.

How Louisiana sports betting works

Every Louisiana sportsbook is licensed by the state and uses geolocation to confirm you are in a participating parish before each bet. You can open and fund a Louisiana account from anywhere, but you must be physically inside a yes-voting parish to place a wager, and you must be 21 or older.

Online brands get market access through the state’s licensed casinos and racetracks. Several also run retail sportsbooks at their partner properties.

Choosing a Louisiana sportsbook

Comparing Louisiana sportsbooks comes down to a few things: the price on the markets you bet most, how stable the app stays under load, how fast Louisiana withdrawals clear, and whether a welcome offer’s terms are genuinely worth claiming. Holding two or three Louisiana accounts lets you line-shop, which over a full season matters far more than any single signup bonus.

How to find the best betting site in Louisiana

There is no one right answer in Louisiana; match the book to the way you bet. Start with price: a half-point better on a Louisiana spread beats almost any sign-up bonus over a season, so compare the odds on the markets you bet most. Then judge the app on use, not looks: stability at kickoff, Louisiana withdrawal speed and bonus terms you can actually meet. Holding a second Louisiana account to compare lines is the simplest edge available.

What you can bet on in Louisiana

Louisiana sportsbooks cover every major US and international league (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, soccer, tennis, golf, MMA and motorsport) with moneylines, spreads, totals, parlays, same-game parlays, futures, player props and live in-play markets.

Betting on LSU, Tulane and other Louisiana college teams

Louisiana does not ban bets on its own college teams, so LSU at Tiger Stadium, Tulane and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns are all on the board for spreads, totals and moneylines. What you can’t bet is a prop on an individual college athlete: the Gaming Control Board banned those in 2024.

Local and global events to bet on in Louisiana

Locally, Louisiana betting tends to revolve around the Saints at the Caesars Superdome, the Pelicans at Smoothie King Center and LSU football on autumn Saturdays. The biggest nights for Louisiana sportsbooks are national ones: the Super Bowl, March Madness, the NBA Finals and the World Series, plus golf’s majors and tennis’s Grand Slams.

A worked example: the total

The Saints and Falcons have a total of 44.5 at -110 on both sides. A $55 bet on the over returns $105 (your stake plus $50) if the teams combine for 45 points or more. A 24-20 final, 44 points, loses the over by half a point.

Deposits, payouts and the Louisiana sports betting tax

Licensed Louisiana apps take the usual cashier menu (online banking, debit card, PayPal and operator-branded options), and for most Louisiana bettors PayPal or online banking clears winnings fastest once your identity is verified. Your first Louisiana withdrawal triggers a one-time identity (KYC) check, so a clear photo of your ID ready to upload avoids delays.

Gov. Jeff Landry signed HB 639 in June 2025, raising the online sports betting tax from 15% to 21.5% from August 1, 2025. Retail stays at 10%. A quarter of sports wagering tax revenue now goes to the new SPORT Fund, which the Board of Regents distributes to 11 public Division I athletic departments, including LSU, Louisiana Tech and McNeese State, for scholarships, medical coverage and facilities but not NIL payments.

For bettors, winnings are taxable income for federal and Louisiana state tax, and non-residents who win in Louisiana must file a Louisiana return.

Louisiana sportsbook promos

Louisiana welcome offers come in two shapes: bet-and-get deals, where a qualifying first bet returns bonus bets, and second-chance bets, where Louisiana bettors get a losing first wager back as bonus bets. The headline figure matters less than the terms, so check the minimum odds, play-through and expiry window before opting in. With the higher tax in effect, the most generous promotions can come and go.

Louisiana betting apps and geolocation

Every Louisiana book above ships iOS and Android apps with geolocation built in, so the app is how most people bet in Louisiana. Keep location services on: the check confirms not just that you’re in Louisiana but that you’re in a participating parish, and near the nine opt-out parishes or the Texas, Arkansas and Mississippi lines it can take a moment.

Check a Louisiana betting app’s license before you hand over card details. A licensed Louisiana book shows its approval from the Louisiana Gaming Control Board in the app or site footer, makes you verify that you’re 21 or older, and runs a geolocation check to confirm you’re in a participating parish before each bet. If a site takes crypto only, claims you need no ID, or is licensed offshore, it is not regulated in Louisiana, and you would have no protection if a payout went wrong.

Responsible gambling in Louisiana

Every licensed operator is audited in Louisiana, ring-fences customer funds and offers deposit, time and self-exclusion limits, the reasons Louisiana bettors should stay with regulated books rather than offshore sites. Betting should stay entertainment; if it stops being fun, set a limit or take a break.

The Louisiana Problem Gamblers Helpline is 1-877-770-STOP (7867), free, confidential and open 24/7 by call or text, with live chat at helpforgambling.org. The Gaming Control Board’s self-exclusion list covers casinos and online sportsbooks in one step and lasts five years; you sign up in person before a Louisiana State Police Gaming Enforcement agent. Louisiana sports betting in 2027

A revote for the holdout parishes

HB 72, introduced in February 2026, proposed new referendums in the nine parishes that rejected sports betting in 2020. If those votes are scheduled, the legal footprint could reach all 64 parishes.

The prop bet debate

SB 354, filed for the 2026 session, proposed removing prop bets and micro-bets from the list of authorized wagers. Louisiana already bans props on individual college athletes, and the wider fight over props is one to watch in 2027.

College money from betting

The SPORT Fund receives a quarter of sports betting tax revenue, with about $24 million a year projected for 11 athletic departments. The first full-year totals will show how much the 21.5% rate delivers.

What is the best sportsbook in Louisiana?

It depends how you bet. FanDuel is strong on same-game parlays, bet365 on live betting, and Caesars ties into Caesars Rewards and Caesars New Orleans. Remember that online betting only works in the parishes that approved it, so check your location before you sign up.

Why can't I bet in some parts of Louisiana?

Nine parishes (Caldwell, Catahoula, Franklin, Jackson, La Salle, Sabine, Union, West Carroll and Winn) voted no in 2020, so the apps block bets placed from inside them.

Can I bet on LSU in Louisiana?

What is Louisiana's sports betting tax rate?

Eight online sportsbooks are licensed: DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars, bet365, Fanatics, theScore Bet and BetRivers.
